    Shortly after I posted that response, udev-057-2mdk appeared as 
an update on the mirrors.   I had already removed 
kernel-multimedia-i686-up-4GB-2.6.11-7.mm.3mdk-1-1mdk, and then 
re-installed it after updating udev.  It now boots with no problems, 
MOF I'm runnin it as I type.
