I've got e17 running beautifully here on my desktop.

Unless there are any major objections, (or unless Kenobi problems keep
up), I'll be packaging it up over the next few days.  It's about 20
packages with complicated inter-dependencies, so have patience; I'll let
you know when it's ready to try out.

In the meantime, if anyone wants to help, find out their menu scheme and
how to translate our current menu to e17.
