1. if you disable dllopen, ATI drivers will not work. so no 3D and others stuff
for some cards

2. the ati driver ( opensource one ) should just works fine. try with the ati
drivers by replacing r128 by ati in xorg.conf.

BTW gentoo is using dlloader too, does gentoo have the issue ? Please have a
lokk in their bugzilla, if not this means they have a patch to make it work, or
just use ati instead of r128

solution:
try the sourcecode and change the spec from:
%define use_dlopen_modules      1

to
%define use_dlopen_modules      0

and recompile all works fine.

the changelog says:
