3)x86_64 users not filing bugs

When they do, they are mostly ignored: http://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=17587 http://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=18280

It's not x86_64 specific.

let's add the main reason IMHO:
4) x86_64 development is managed in private fashion, so why should we do
contribute whereas our input is obviously not wanted ?

It's not private, you are allowed to build packages for x86_64 and you can use an x86_64 system on the cluster.

That's why all packages are rebuilt during three month on another computers than deborah and finally put on mirrors at last moment (after rc2 at all).

This is not what I called a public fashion.

So, whats new? IMHO this is common knowledge, and if it isn't, I'm willing to disclose mails I've received where I've been kindly (cough, cough) asked to turn off the automatic building and uploading process I had running. This was back in march 2004, right before a release.

IMHO it's very simple. You're not going to change the behaviour of this individual. And the organisation he works for doesn't seem to see the need to do anything either (so it seems). So, that's a dead end.

I've proposed to build the x86_64 distro for contributors on non-mandriva infrastructure and make sure that the changes which are required are in the src.rpm on the Mandriva system. It's implemented, although I suspect the resulting packages aren't being used.

On an other note, the organisation which has been giving me access to this x86_64 host is now going to move their infrastructure from Mandriva to CentOS, dus to their dissatisfaction with the stability of the Mandriva supplied kernels. Just to give you an idea of the numbers:
- 20 servers
- 600 clients

Just have a look here and look the difference between the first and the second (same version - release):
