Hi cooker folks,

no, you're not dreaming, the days of the old Debian Menu system are
counted (as well as menudrake \o/ ) and we will soon start transition
from Debian menu system to full XDG menu system.

I've starting writing the various steps we will do for the migration.
The document is not finished yet (I'll probably finish it tomorrow, I'll
mail about that when it is done) so please, don't modify it on the Wiki
for the moment. But you are free to post your comments by replying to
this email.

http://qa.mandriva.com/twiki/bin/view/Main/MenuMigrationToXDG

Currently, what is missing / not finished :
- List of all possible categories (they can be found in
http://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/menu-spec-1.0.html#category-registry )

- mapping between our current menu hiearchy and the registered
categories (in progress, we might propose new categories upstream).

- some packages to test the new stuff (I have a working .menu file which
mandriva categories, but it needs to be filled with registered
categories)

- tests with non XDG window managers : hopefully, SUSE dudes have
already done a lot of work on that, so it will be much smoother than I
expected.

We will also need a webpage on the wiki explaining the new system
(mainly the .desktop part) for people writing specfile from scratch
(since the migration page is not supposed to be used after 2007.0 is
out).

Now, you can start commenting ;)
