Hi all

I'm usually one to participate in the usual "we need another RC" threads, so for once I thought, let's start about 11 months early ;-)

The usual problem seems to be that the glue components aren't working well enough, due to last minute changes and lack of wide testing. So I wanted to propose a planning for cooker that would seem right to me (I can't make anyone listen, but I can shout in the wind can't I ;-)

So, cooker planning:

oct(+nov/dec?)'06: shake out bugs missed before 2007.0 final
nov'06-mar'07: work out wild ideas, rewrites, new stuff for '08
apr'07: freeze the release structure and mandriva tools
jun'07: release early alpha ISOs (about beta1 quality)
jul'07: freeze major versions of software components (maybe another beta)
early aug'07: start frequent ISO beta releases
early sep'07: if stable enough, start RC releases
end sep'07: make final when install/upgrade bugs are fixed.

I'm not sure if this is a good planning, but I hope to start a discussion with more able and actual package contributors. If this planning is fixed early, I'm confident the next release will have less "we need another RC" threads.

Cheers

Simon
