- Date: 17 Mar 2007 17:56:05 -0000
Since about one week, the package task-printing-scanning is installed by default. This package installs by default all printer and scanner drivers and daemons, and enables them all, even if there is no relevant hardware present. The most annoying are hplip and saned packages because they contain services that are started automatically at boot. Even when having a scanner, saned is not necessary: it is only useful if you want to share the scanner with other machines in a network. Please make sure especially these two packages not installed by default automatically. They eat memory and slow down startup time if not necessary. printerdrake should install them when needed, like was the case in 2007.0. -- Frederik Himpe
