Hi,

OK, this will probably be painful for a while until we iron out the
problems.

First things first for regular users of compiz there is an important
change about the way you start compiz.

Traditionally a basic compiz would start with something like:
 compiz --replace gconf

This will no longer work as you need to also load the glib module prior
to the gconf module like so
 compiz --replace glib gconf

So if you've customised the COMPOSITING_WM_ARGS variable in the config
file by hand you may need to update it.

Secondly, I am personally having problems with automatic starting of
compiz at session login with gnome. Blino seemed to have no problems
when loading KDE, so YMMV.

I found that my whole session would hang by default so I had to set:
COMPOSITING_WM_ARGS="--replace --sm-disable ...."
in my config by hand. This causes a delay in logging in for me but it
does complete. Again YMMV, feedback welcome.

Configs:

The plan is to deprecate glib/gconf settings backends as these do not
provide any configuration tools other than gset-compiz which is rubbish.

We will in future use the ccp config backend which by default (e.g.
currently!) uses an ini file to store your settings but can be
configured to use gconf/kconfig in the future.

Right on to the fun stuff :) FUSION!!!

If you want to install fusion, you should:
urpmi ccsm compiz-fusion-plugins-main

Optionally you can install:
compiz-fusion-plugins-extra emerald

The above will pull in other packages too.

You will have to edit /etc/sysconfig/compisiting-wm or ~/.compositing-wm
and do the following:

COMPOSITING_WM=compiz
COMPOSITNG_WM_ARGS="--sm-disable --replace ccp"
COMPOSITING_WINDOW_DECORATOR="emerald --replace"

Note you should edit this to suit your needs (e.g. you may prefer
gtk-window-decorator or kde-window-decorator above emerald). The
--replace arguments are not strictly speaking necessary for login but it
will allow you to run "compositing-wm-start" after login should you want to.

In order to configure things, run "ccsm" or find it under the menu
(System -> Configuration -> Other -> CompizConfig Settings Manager).

Not all packages are built yet but I'm working through them now.

Although a complete and filthy hack, intel users may want to experiment
with putting "export INTEL_BATCH=1" into the config file mentioned
above. glxgears gives me about 400fps more with this true and compiz can
perform better too, but YMMV. We'll try to work out a nice way of doing
this rather than this filthyness....
