To test (and freeze) mplayer -ao pulse <some music or movie> Then use the 9 and 0 keys to adjust the volume. At some point mplayer with freeze. With alsa, this doesn't happen. Another slightly annoying issue is amarok pausing. It seems to freeze for a few seconds before the pause OSD pops up and input control returns to amarok. Again I blame the plugin for xine... I'll try the alsa output and see if that helps.
